The Last Post

It feel right, finally, to say goodbye to this blog. One Empty Shelf has come to an end.

I started blogging well over a decade ago, and OES has changed with me over the years, from optimistic minimalist blog, through work changes, life changes, health changes and more, right up to now. These pages have been an outlet for me to share my thoughts, frustrations, ideas, and my slow little life – but things are drawing to a natural close now. That chapter is over. I’ve said all the things I wanted to, let all of the words out that I needed to. One Empty Shelf has helped me, but it’s time to let it go.

When the renewal came up in December last year, I seriously considered ending the blog then, but was held back by a whirl of ‘could-do’s’. I have a newsletter, I have a book club planned, there was a hint of a Patreon… I have endless pages of half-formed ideas I could do. Eventually I paid for the next year’s hosting, but each idea felt a little hollow. The truth is, this chapter has been winding down for a while now, but I wasn’t ready to let go. So, I almost said goodbye to the site a year or so ago, but it wasn’t quite right. However, the time has finally arrived. Now, it feels as though it’s a natural end.

I’ve had such lovely responses to the newsletter, and I want to say thank you so much to everyone who has read, liked or commented on the blog over the years. I’ve made some amazing friends through this, had some amazing opportunities, and even got featured in the press. Who would have thought.

I’m going to keep blogging, with a new project, The Ginger Feather, but I need to let this one go to close this chapter in my life. My new online home will be here, and I’ll be taking a little break in the meantime to let things settle and new ideas grow.

If you’ve found value in One Empty Shelf, I hope you’ll visit me there – it will be a little different, but still me, and hopefully something I can grow and build and take with me into whatever the future holds. I’ve found peace in a more offline life, but love to write – so will still be around, in a quiet corner of the internet, writing about little things and plants and gardening and birds and walking and the slow turn of the seasons. Everyone has been so lovely so it would be fantastic to re-convene, in a few months time, somewhere new, with a little less history.

One Empty Shelf will remain up through 2021, until the hosting finishes.

And now, this chapter closes. Thank you all so, so much.
