I was excited this week to be a Sunshine Blogger Award nominee! Thank you so much to Two Cup House! Garrett and Claudia are downsizing to a tiny home and simplifying their lifestyle. They’re documenting the journey on the way!
So, here are the questions, and my answers!
1. What is your favorite frugal activity or hobby?
At first I thought, easy, writing! But then I started thinking more and there’s so many things I love to do that don’t cost any money at all either! Writing One Empty Shelf and making videos is something I love doing and can always make time for. I also love to be outdoors in all weathers, playing or listening to music, reading and learning, taking some time to be mindful… So many things! I think that most of all, I love the simple pleasure of spending time with my husband and our cat and just pottering around, experiencing love and life and everything a day can throw at us.
2. Where do you like to vacation?
I love to holiday somewhere wild… Camping or wild camping, making our own food and exploring outdoors. I also love the heat and sun (not that useful when you’re a natural redhead!) so I also love to relax by the beach somewhere hot too. Two different holidays but I love each equally! I’m not really one for posh restaurants and hotels, or organised activities. I prefer something a bit more adventurous and am way more at home in a tent, just going with the flow and taking experiences as they come.
3. Who is your favourite author?
Currently, my favourite author is without a doubt Robert MacFarlane. His writing is breathtaking, a journey through thoughts and experience, peppered with wonderful words, drawing you in as time ticks by unnoticed. His writing speaks to my soul. His book “The Old Ways” follows his journey tracking and rediscovering the old pathways of Britain, long forgotten. It’s a treat for the mind and such an inspiration.
4. What book, blog or podcast have you enjoyed recently?
Blog: Brooke McAlary’s Slow Your Home podcast is incredible and inspiring, I love it and I love her blog too.
Book: I’m not usually one for fantasy writing but a colleague lent me the first book in Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series and since then I’ve become so addicted to them…I read 3 books in a row in one day this week! My eyes hurt so much by the end…I think I have a problem! The series is about Chicago’s only Wizard P.I. Harry Dresden…I can’t stop reading them, which I’m really enjoying as I’ve never really read any fantasy books before so it’s a refreshing change! On the non-fiction side, I love Al Humphrey’s Microadventures. It’s packed full of small adventures you can fit in between your job. If you’re yearning to get out and about but haven’t got much time, it’s a perfect book to give you that spark, that ‘lets do it’ thought and create some amazing experiences.
Blog: Dave Cornthwaite’s blog on Medium has been inspiring me recently. He’s an adventurer who’s simplified his life too. He’s written 4 books and had some amazing adventures including skateboarding 3618 miles from Perth to Brisbane in Australia, and aiming to raise £1million for charity by travelling 1000 miles… 25 times! You can find out more about Expedition1000 here. Dave runs a project called #sayyesmore and blogs about his adventures around the world. Well worth checking out.
5. If you could have dinner with one person, living or otherwise, who would it be?
Can I cheat and have lots of dinners, each with a family member I wish I’d had more time to know better? Especially all my grandparents, who live on in stories and memories but whom I’d love to have the chance to have just a few more moments with.
6. If you had only one thing to say to the world, what would it be?
That anything is possible. Really.
